The sheer number and variety of patterns was impressive. I was only looking for scarf/shawl patterns and I found a few interesting ones. I don't know if most people intend to do many patterns from the same book, but it looks like anybody could find a few patterns that suit them.

Most of the projects in the book are available for look-up on Ravelry.

Unfortunately, a number of items are only available in one size...sometimes a very odd size, at that. For example, one pair of the gloves is only available in child's large/women's small. The sizing issue seems to have been addressed more effectively in later books in the One-Skein series.

The ideas are way too difficult for a beginning knitter. The title implies that with that with one skein, you can make cool things.

Nothing terribly original or unique given all the other "one-skein" books out there, but it's all for sock yarn weight and some of us knitters have lots of that left over in our stash. A lot of quick-knit gift ideas to consider in this book.
I've tagged this one to borrow it again.
