Not having read anything from the NJO era on, I was curious as to how reading this first of a series would be, and I have to say I had mixed feelings about this novel.

On one hand, I enjoyed the overarching mystery of what is happening with members of the Jedi order and the search for answers about events of the past, and there were some well-written, exciting chase sequences. On the other hand, some of the subplots felt unnecessary, and I didn't find all the characters that interesting, but I will withhold full judgment until I read the next few books of the series.

Overall, I always enjoy a trip to the 'Wars, and honestly, after trying to read Death Star, anything can look good, and I look forward to exploring more of this series.

I really dont like the star wars movies, I have seen them all but I just never cared for them. However I like the Jedi Knight PC line of games such as Jedi Knight Outcast and dark forces (not so fond of academy). Also the Knights of the Old Republic games were really good.
This was the second star wars book I ever read the first being a tales from jabba the huts house or something back in 95? that a friend lent me.
This is a really good novel and the second two that follow get better with the third being really good.
Yea you do need to kind of figure out whos who and whats what because they reference a ton of old stuff. After reading the first 3 of this line I acctualy started on Legacy of the force which were not as good as fate of the jedi.

This series is good. I have been a star wars fan for a long time and it has been just getting better. If you read this, I would suggest reading a couple of other series first. 1: Young Jedi Knights. 2: New Jedi Order. 3: Legacy Of The Force. If you do not read the first one you should be OK. But I strongly suggest reading the others in this order.
