There has never been another comedian like Bob Newhart. His comedy albums, movies, and two hit television series have made him a national treasure and placed him firmly in the pantheon of comedy legends. Now, at last, Newhart puts his world view on paper. Never a punch-line comic, always more of a storyteller, he tells anecdotes from throughout his life and career, including his beginnings as an accountant, the groundbreaking success of his comedy albums, and his fifteen years on primetime television. He also gives his wry, comedic twist to a multitude of topics, including golf, drinking, and family holidays.--From publisher description.

Let me begin by admitting that I still enjoy watching reruns of The Bob Newhart Show. I love Bob's sense of humor.

In this memoir, Bob discusses his life as a comedian, as well as his early pre-comedy days. He’s from Chicago—yay! He also talks about golf, smoking & drinking, his friendship with Don Rickles, and his fear of flying.

He includes some of his bits, which really don’t translate on paper. His dry wit is best appreciated when delivered by Bob himself. Perhaps an audiobook version of this memoir would have been a better choice.

Anyway, I did enjoy this light memoir. I only wish that I could have laughed while reading it because Newhart really is a funny man.

Bob Newhart's memoir gives you a rather superficial insight into the man. For me, I have heard some of the (still funny) stories included in this book many times before. One distinct difference is that, after reading this book, you come to understand that Bob has led a happy life, free from the "demons" that seem to plague other comedians.

This would be a great audiobook (assuming it's read by Newhart). As others have said, it is a bit flat on the printed page.

I love Bob Newhart. I love his stand -up routines. I thought Newhart was a very funny TV series once they got past the first season. But....I don't love this book. Perhaps his humour doesn't translate well to the written word.

Worth reading as a memoir if you like Bob Newhart . Includes some of his best-known monologues. However, his delivery is what makes his bits funny so they are rather flat on paper - you really need to have heard them to appreciate them. I bought my parents the audiobook version and I imagine that would be better.
