A good look at how terrible war truly is. A tear jerker for sure.

I always enjoy Ann Rinaldi's books; she excels at historical fiction. I would recommend this title to those who prefer historical fiction and books about strong young women protagonists.

This story, the majority of it taking place during the Reb's occupation of the town of Gettyburg in July 1863, fleshes out the emotional and physical demands that occur to the town's residents, particularly the Stryker family.
