Newark newspaper reporter Carter Ross is convinced he`s driving to a big story. Police detective Sergeant Darius Kipps is reported dead and Carter is off to speak to his widow. Only later, Carter hears the death is ruled a suicide. That means according to his newspaper`s policy, there`s no story. Widow Mr. Kipps is baffled by her husband`s death and so is his partner. Intrigued, Carter pursues a private investigation leading to curious behavior by the some police and others to build a case to question the official ruling of a suicide for Kipps. Throughout, Carter maneuvers office relationships--professional and romantic--to see the unlikely news story through. The novel is a tidy mystery with a few colorful characters and rich humor.
