This is a 1933 British drama directed by Frank Lloyd, based on the 1931 play of the same title by Noël Coward.
The film depicts a view of English life from New Year's Eve 1899 through New Year's Day 1933, from the point of view of well-to-do London residents Jane and Robert Marryot, their children, their close friends, and their servants.
In the background for the film are several historical events: the Second Boer War, the death of Queen Victoria, the sinking of the Titanic, and World War I.
The film won three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Art direction and Best Director.
Although the old couple wish dignity, greatness and peace in the end, you can easily sense that the second world war is approaching in the background.
