In the winter of 1939 in the cold snow of no-man's-land, two loners met and began an extraordinary journey. One was an orphaned puppy, abandoned as his owners fled Nazi forces. The other was Czech airman Robert Bozdech, who found the tiny German shepherd he named "Ant" after being shot down on a daring mission over enemy lines. Robert hid Ant inside his jacket as he escaped, and by the end of the war the pair had become British war heroes.

I think that in the begin I was wondering what will happen? the cover shows the person and dog so I know they made it out.

True story that's heart warming. Informative regarding WWII air war as well as the human/canine connection. Ordered for my WWII Army Air Corps Dad. Enjoyed by both of us. 👍

Wonderful tale and well told. Couldn't stop reading, and so heart warming.

The preface about this man's family is also a lovely memorial to this man, his courage and his dog.

Great read for dog lovers, and a good true WWII story involving the Czech RAF pilots. I read the book in one sitting as I loved the story and I love dogs. Though the style was dry, and the narrative consisted mostly of the list of events, the book's redemption was in richness of the story material.

This is an excellent read by Damien Lewis - and a very interesting life history of a foreign flyer who fights his way over to Britian to fight the Nazis with a stray he picks up in Germany.
Made me interested in the other books by this author, including Judy The Unforgettable Story of the Dog Who Went to War and Became a True Hero...
